Believers Church Community Group

Believers church community group is made up of, generally speaking, those of us who are over 35 or who have children. We are a group that doesn’t want to coast into middle age or old age. As the name suggests, ultimately our goal is to not only just hang out together, but rather together, reach our community in some way.

I’d like to share with you some of the things we’ve been able to participate in over the year. There’s more, but this will give you a good idea of what our group is about.

During the colder months, we were gathering together for dinner as a group, and going through some book studies, and really making an effort as a group to get out and meet our neighbors, coworkers, anyone in our purview. This was both a good challenge for us, and some really good things came of it.

Early this spring we participated in a local cleanup in Lincoln Park. We filled quite a few bags of trash and, though the day was freezing cold, we braved it and were able to meet various people and groups in the community. That is the sort of thing that helps to build connections and relationships over time. We do, after all, want to make an impact in our community and often times it will come through those relationships we’ve built over the years.

Over the last year, we’ve learned a lot, been challenged and had many good opportunities arise. As you can see by a number of these pictures, we were blessed by being able to participate in a community garden and we’ve planted a crop of pumpkins. None of us really knew how to garden, but, lo and behold, after putting some seeds in the ground, up came some plants!

That came out of the ground!

Certainly we aren’t just there to get some pumpkins, though we have some good plans for the pumpkins coming up in the fall. But more importantly, we have been able to both meet and BLESS the community through it.

In addition to both the people we’ve been able to meet, and the garden we’ve learned to care for, we also have been able to participate in a number of “Workdays”. The garden needed most of the fence fixed this year, so our group was able to help with that, among many other things.

And though we are now moving into the colder months, we hope to still be able to carry our momentum forward.

Ultimately the heart of Believers Church Community Group is this: God has done wonderful things for us and we want to take that good news out into our community, as well as serve and bless our community. Our goal is both to do this as a group, as well as individually (with our neighbors, coworkers and anyone who God has put in our purview).

If you are interested in joining us, keep your eyes open and ears peeled for the announcements on Sunday at the church. We hope you’ll consider joining us in our mission.
